WordCamp Boston 2011

It was little over a week ago that Ellen and I and 600 other people attended WordCamp Boston 2011. This was our first WordCamp and we were so excited to be there. We were never disappointed, it was the most well organized conference I had ever been to – all logistics and details were taken care prior to and during the conference.  Registration on the web was easy – you could see who was attending, add your picture and make a comment. We were greeted by upbeat organizers helpful in answering any questions.  We were given a badge that included everything you needed to know about the conference – venue, schedule, Twitter hashtag, program and After Party info. You hung the badge around your neck – all in one place – no big notebook to carry.

The Program

The WordCamp Program was excellent. There were a total of 40 presentations, three types (How To, Development and Education) going on at the same time in different locations. It was hard to decide on which session to attend – they all looked so interesting.  Morning presentations included Creating Plugins by Kelly Dwan and Mobile WordPress on Campus by Kyle Dickson. You can access most all presentations from Slideshare.

Lunch was a “boxed lunch” filled with a specialty sandwich, chips, cookie and an apple. Great food and a perfect time to digest the sessions you attended and network with others. Afternoon presentations included Theming & Mobile Technologies by Sara Cannon who talked about responsive web design and optimizing your site for various devices, Karen Rubin presented How to Generate Leads With Your WordPress Blog and  C.C. Chapman entertained us with his charming personality and hilarious video examples on how you can make an impact using video in your blog.

Sunday’s presentations continued with Douglas Hanna presenting Treating Your Readers Like Customers, Your Doing it Wrong and its all my fault by Andrew Norcross and Don’t Be a Tool: Content Management Strategy by John Eckman, Digital Strategist and lead organizer of WordCamp Boston.

After Party at the Microsoft NERD Center

Saturday night all WordCamp attendees were invited to the Microsoft NERD Center for the After Party. What great fun it was – stimulating conversation, games and a raffle along with a cadre of foods that would satisfy any pallet -homemade pita chips, guacamole, meatballs, shrimp, chicken and the best baked cookies and cakes. There was a live filming of LiveWP.tv.

Thank You organizers, presenters and sponsors

Thank you to all organizers who made attending WorkCamp a pleasure, to the all presenters providing valuable information and insights and to the many sponsors  including .tv, Zemanta, VaultPress and more who helped make this event happen.
