Local Business Websites Set You FreeA Local Business Website built on WordPress makes a lot of sense, at least to us here at elSue.  We have found that WordPress incorporates a set of features that are very appealing to local businesses.  With WordPress you can create an informational MicroSite or a larger website to promote your products and services. Best of all, you won’t be held hostage by your web design company.

What is WordPress?

A little background on WordPress – started in 2003 as a blogging tool, today it is used world-wide from small blogs to large company websites.  Check out their Showcase, that’s just a sampling of what WordPress can do. This web-based software runs on your web host (many offer one-click install of WordPress) and gives you access to many free resources, including themes and plugins to customize your website.  Oh, and WordPress itself is free with a large community of programmers who keep it up-to-date.

If you don’t have a website or are unhappy (disgusted really) with your current website, then take back control with a WordPress Website.

  • Be the one to create your own account with for a domain name and web host. Get your own web host with 1-click WordPress install. For a microsite, you can get decent web hosting for less than $100 per year. We use Bluehost as a domain registrar and to host elSue.  If you chose to change web hosts in the future you will have access to all the information you need.
  • Utilize the thousands of free and premium resources.   Many of the paid themes cost under $100 with a range of choices to fit your business.  WordPress plugins add even more functionality to your website with most of them free.   If your project requires a lot of customization, hire someone proficient in WordPress to help you.  It is still less costly than having a site created from scratch and much more attractive than out-of-the-box websites.
  • A large community of WordPress developers and designers are available to help you create a site so you Get Found by potential customers. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, there are tutorials, videos, forums and groups all about WordPress to help you put together a local business website.   • Add and edit content easily. After your website is designed you can take control of the content or hire someone like a virtual assistant to do the work for you.  If you can use a word processor or write an email then you can make those changes you once waiting on your web designer to do.
  • WordPress Website are search engined optimized.  Gain even greater control with a good theme and SEO plugin.  Tie in Google Analytics to get statistics on your website visitors and you can get a better picture of how people are finding you online.
  • Offer a mobile version of your website with a mobile theme or plugin.  Extremely important for businesses that get a lot of mobile traffic.  Make sure that mobile traffic turns into foot traffic.

These are some of the ways that you can take control of your website without it taking control of you.
